Film Production graduate scores with new Star Wars trailer

One of our Film Production graduates, Frederick Lloyd, has completed an exciting commission to contribute music to the final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Frederick landed the exciting opportunity to work on the iconic franchise through his agents in Los Angeles.

“Star Wars is probably the most iconic and well-loved film franchise there is - but more than that, it's a legacy and such a huge, historic monument of film,” says Frederick, 24. “To just be a small part of that is an amazing feeling. Hearing something you've worked on playing over these images and the Star Wars title at the end is incredibly special. I'm a huge JJ Abrams fan as well, so to be involved in something of his is a dream for me.”

This isn’t the first time Frederick, who composes under the moniker Ursine Vulpine, has worked on the music for a Hollywood film trailer. His previous credits include Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow’s 2012 film charting the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, which used music originally written for his award-winning graduation film, Pantheon.

“I would never have had this amazing opportunity if it wasn’t for my time at UCA, so I’m forever grateful to the Film Production team for supporting what we wanted to do with Pantheon,” says Frederick. “Having been taught the structures and intricacies of film at all its stages of production helped immensely in seeing and understanding the relationship between image and music.”

Frederick joins our 1996 graduate Gareth Edwards as the latest UCA alumnus to become involved with the Star Wars franchise, with Gareth currently directing the first spin-off film, Rogue One.

Frederick's success comes at a time of expansion for the Music course portfolio available at UCA, with the launch of our new degree in Music Composition and Technology. Open for September 2016 entry and based at our Farnham campus, the course is aimed at students looking to forge careers in creating and producing music for film, theatre, animation, computer games and more, and can be taken as either a BA or a BSc.
