The Department of Art and Design is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track or full-time professional practice-track position in Interaction Design and New Media. The University is seeking an individual capable of excellent teaching, committed to significant involvement with students both within and outside of the classroom, and interested in participating in the academic unit’s service learning and/or undergraduate research programs.
The Department of Art and Design has a strong commitment to teaching excellence, and passion for building Christian community with students, a tradition of high impact academic practices, and experience in using our skills for collaborative and interdisciplinary work.
Responsibilities begin August 2025 and will include teaching a wide variety of courses in Design, Interaction Design, and New Media. Academic rank and compensation levels will be based on degrees earned and related experience.

Salary:
PLNU pays its faculty using a payscale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 2-semester appointment range from $73,245 to $126,825. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Provide instruction in the area of Design, Interaction Design, and New Media including introductory courses and service courses as needed.
Work strategically with a diversity of colleagues, students, parents and community members.
Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students (where possible).
Advise and mentor students academically, spiritually, and socially.
Participate in departmental activities and governance.
Contribute to curriculum development in area(s) of teaching experience and expertise.
Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other normal faculty duties.
Contribute in preparing students for their career and help them find who they are called to be.
Conduct rigorous scholarly research.
Off-campus community engagement.
Required Qualifications:
Education: MA in Design or related field.
Experience: Evidence of Research, Professional Practice and/or Exhibition.
Experience: Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Philosophical: Commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: MFA, MDES, Ph.D., or terminal degree in a related field.
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students and working with and actively supporting colleagues from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
Experience: Evidence of Research, Professional Practice and/or Exhibition.
