Sinopsis | Tesco, a love brand that has withdrawn from the Turkish market is rumoured to re-enter. In 2021, Tesco started collecting soft plastics in their stores to be recycled. Despite selling illusion of “recycling plastics” to its consumers, their tagged plastic bags ended up in illegal dump sites in Turkey. According to Greenpeace, The UK shipped an average of 575 tons of plastic rubbish to Turkey every day in 2020. Waste plastic trade is a $50 billion global trade. So the responsibility for dealing with this hard-to-process trash is passed on to poorer nations and strains their waste-disposal infrastructure. To end this hypocrisy, Greenpeace started a petition campaign about the complete ban of UK’s plastic waste export. Their website is available at bukimincopu.org. The campaign is to create awareness for this plastic waste problem and ask for public support. |
