Water is a poorly-managed resource in Turkey, where over-use and a chronically low water table should be causes for concern. The country hovers just above water poverty level, but few see water as a valuable resource in the same way they perceive petrol or gold. To change this, dishwasher detergent brand FINISH teamed up with the TSKB (the country’s development bank) to create the Finish Water Index. Calculated by comparing existing water levels to rates of consumption, it tracks the daily value of water, alongside currency exchange, gold and stock prices. Launched at the Turkish stock market, the Index set the economic press abuzz. And it’s not just a one-off: the Finish Water Index will remain in place to help people understand the real value of water. Because water is a liquid asset that none of us can do without. |
