Detailed Job Description

The School of Design in the College of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites individuals to apply for a tenure-track teaching position with a focus on motion design in the School of Design. We are seeking candidates with expertise in motion design who are well-rounded visual designers. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring unique interest or experience in Generative AI tools as related to their field. Ideal candidates will be able to teach animation principles and design concepts. They will teach students storytelling as it applies to motion, along with beginning to high-level skills and industry practices. This candidate will teach intro classes along with more advanced techniques. Teaching appropriate software such as Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4D is a must. This candidate will also possess the ability to provide leadership and vision in integrating motion design into the Graphic Design (BFA), New Media Design (BFA), and Visual Communication Design (MFA) curriculums. Candidates should be qualified to teach throughout the curriculum. Expectations include teaching 3 undergraduate and/or graduate studio and lecture courses per semester, with a reduced load offered during the tenure-track period.; teaching 2-3 courses each semester; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; rendering service to the school, college, university, and community; career advising and mentoring students; and participating in professional organizations important to the field of design.

THE SCHOOL:
The internationally renowned School of Design (SOD) offers five undergraduate programs in 3D Digital Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and New Media Design, as well as two graduate programs in Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design. SOD also includes the Vignelli Center for Design Studies, with its vast archive of relevant design artifacts and their process. SOD is a creative community where students discover their unique talents and expressive potential, all while developing the skills needed to fulfill any creative or technical role in the expansive fields of design. SOD has an enrollment of over 800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. SOD alumni and faculty are nationally and internationally recognized, and include National Design Award recipients, design leaders at global companies and organizations, and thought leaders who shape the field of design and the future of society and the planet. Required Minimum Qualifications

MFA degree in Graphic Design, New Media, Visual Communications, Animation or equivalent terminal degree. In certain circumstances, candidates with a bachelor degree and skills qualifications, and exceptional professional and creative experience in a design-related field may be considered.

• Demonstrated expertise in motion design
• Demonstrated experience in any of the following areas of design: typography, graphic design, 3D design, narrative storytelling or interactive design
• Teaching Experience
• Professional Experience
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences
