Campaigns for the scariest season

Halloween is just around the corner, so it’s time to gather around the cauldron and see what creative campaigns bubble up.

For some people Halloween is the year’s best festival, with its garish costumes and delightful frights. Adland is quite a fan too, as the event is strongly linked to candy and similar treats. But is there a new way of expressing Halloween’s cobwebby charm? Let’s open that creaky cellar door and take a peek.

First we have Publicis London, which positions Ireland as the “Home of Halloween” for the country’s tourist board. It’s a beautifully made film from an Irish director, Leonn Ward, who strikes a balance between fear and optimism.

A roaring fire, ghost stories, young people in peril: this next film from David NYC for a games console hits all the horror beats.

After that longish video treat, here’s a simple and effective print ad from GUT in New York.

If you’re not stalking the streets on All Hallows’ Eve, maybe you’re staying in with scary movie. Here Warner Brothers showcases some horror classics that are available to stream. A short “making of” at the end shows us how the spooky setting was created.

Meanwhile, this promotion for Uber Eats by Rethink combines the DNA of great horror movies with an excellent digital and outdoor campaign.

Any home can be unnerving in the dark, especially if you’re a child. This short spot for IKEA plays on a particular myth.

To celebrate Halloween last year, soft drink Fanta and Wunderman Thompson Brazil created an “unreality show”. Shown on YouTube in four episodes, the escape game featured “six fearless influencers and content creators from all over Latin America” who agreed to assemble in a haunted house. The trailer won’t make you envious of them.

While not specifically a Halloween spot, this film for Prada, directed by the (I think we can safely say) legendary Jonathan Glazer, creates a sense of unease that’s worthy of Hitchcock. It features a certain well-known Hollywood actress, exploring her full range.

How do you turn a corporate film for IT managers into an amusing retro horror movie? Let Panaya – a company that helps companies with digital transition – show you the way.

What if being a monster was actually liberating? That’s the proposition of this wildly entertaining web film from Mountain Dew and TBWA.

Happy scary season, everyone.
