When he joined in 2010 the charge was simple, spearhead a creative resurgence and make Mullen internationally recognized for its creativity and innovation. As a result, Mullen made the AdAge Agency A-list 4 of the last 5 years and most recently ranked #6 in the US and #15 globally by The One Club¬. In addition, Creativity named Mullen “Innovator of the year” and Forbes Magazine put Mullen on their Most Innovative Company list.
Through unconventional practices and establishing a process of perpetual reinvention, Tim has been able to level the playing field and seize an unfair share of attention for a stable of clients that often find themselves out spent by their competitors. Clients like JetBlue, Acura, Zappos, and Google. Some recent accolades include the much lauded Grand Effie for American Greetings “Worlds toughest Job”, six lions for National Geographic’s “killing Kennedy” site and an Emmy for Nat Geo’s “Live from space” second screen experience. What Tim takes real pride in is the broad spectrum of work his department puts out. From activations and digital experiences to social and broadcast. Tim has enjoyed creating memorable work and won most every national and international award including several Cannes Gold Lions, Cannes Grand Prix, One Show Pencils, D&AD Awards, Communication Arts Awards, ANDY’s, multiple AICP awards and just recently had Volkswagens “Pink Moon” spot named one of the best automotive commercials of the last decade. Tim feels most fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from and work with some of the best in the business.
As partner and Creative Director at Modernista, Tim harnessed the power of smart design and idiosyncratic insights to crafted campaigns for Brands like HUMMER, Cadillac, TIAA-CREF, Napster, The Bill And Linda Gates Foundation and (RED). During his tenure, Modernista! Grew over 220%, named Agency of the Year and the fastest-growing independent shop in the country.
A Creative Director at Arnold Worldwide, Tim spent 8 years building the celebrated “Drivers Wanted” campaign for Volkswagen. From the re-launch of the New Beetle to work like “Synchronicity”, “Ransome” and “Mr. Roboto” he has enjoyed creating work that was not only memorable but embraced by pop culture. As an Art Director/Designer, Tim learned by working with some of the most respected creative at the time on beloved brands like Polaroid, Keds, Honda. Whether by creative use of outdoor, reinventing how print was utilized, or conceiving up new media, Innovation always played a key role in his work in the early days. The foundations Tim learned in providence 25 years ago are still very much present in his work today.
