Garron Chang, founder of Soundbath, is an award-winning composer who has earned a reputation for creating arresting, experimental contemporary music in the commercial advertising world. If you've watched television lately,chances are you've heard Garron's music. Awards Garron has won for his scores include: Addy, AICP, New York Festival Award for Nike -Toros, and numerous Shoot and Adweek Spotlights and Top Ten Track Lists. He has composed music for clients such as Intel, Levi's, BMW, Vans, Taco Bell, Nike, Gatorade, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Budweiser, Sony, Ford, AT&T, Miller Lite, Nissan, Pac Bell, Sun America, and Yamaha.
With experience creating music for everything from film scores to independent pop music, Garron's music is inspired by a wide range of musical styles like: electronica, various dance styles, jazz, hip hop, classical, and international. Some of his influences include the Bristol scene from England, Brazilian artists Villa-Lobos and Joabim, Jane's Addiction, Mahler, Satie, Kurt Weill, Chemical Brothers, and the Bulgarian Women's Choir.
Born in South Korea, Garron grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and began playing the guitar at the late age of 16. Soon he was writing songs and playing guitar with the alternative-rock group, Greenglass. His latent musical talents were quickly discovered by Ray Chester, the Chairman of the Classical Guitar program at the world-renowned Peabody Institute and not two years after he first picked up a guitar, he was accepted into the Peabody Institute for Classical Music. There he earned two degrees, one in Classical Guitar, and one in audio engineering through a join program with Johns Hopkins University.
In 1995, Garron moved to Los Angeles and quickly became one of the top young commercial composers. He spent a total of six years working as a staff-composer for Elias Associates and HUM Music + Sound Design before founding Soundbath in 2001.
