In the past 40 years with the agency, 20 of which he served as CEO, John has played key roles on the team that continues to bring national attention to Martin, including Discover Financial Services, GEICO, Walmart and Hanes.
In 1997, John became one of a handful of advertising people to be inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame. And in 2015, he was named to the American Advertising Federation Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of a few hundred men and women who have made significant contributions to both advertising and society as a whole.
He is chairman of the board of directors at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Brandcenter, and also serves on the boards of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and Hampden-Sydney College. He also is a member of the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame and lectures frequently on marketing and business issues throughout the United States.
